Solanum pyracanthos, also known as the porcupine tomato, is an evergreen shrub native to tropical Madagascar.  It is known for its intense orange thorns and fuzzy gray-green leaves, which make it a visually dramatic addition to gardens, though handling it requires caution. 

The most distinctive feature of the porcupine tomato is the dense array of fluorescent orange thorns that cover its stems, leaf veins, and even its spiny, marble-sized fruits.
