Fu Lion Pair
Hand carved wood. Each pair is unique and full or characteristic. Fu lions, also known as guardian lions or foo dogs, are a popular symbol in Chinese culture. They are typically depicted as a pair, often placed at the entrance of buildings or homes, to ward off evil spirits and bring good fortune.
The pair represents the balance of yin and yang:
- Male lion: Symbolizes power, strength, and courage. He is usually depicted with a ball under his paw, representing the world and his control over it.
- Female lion: Symbolizes nurturing, compassion, and fertility. She is often shown with a cub under her paw, representing the cycle of life.
Together, the pair is believed to provide protection, prosperity, and good luck. They are often seen as guardians of businesses, homes, and temples.
